Dr. of Musical Arts Tomislav Dimov, a student of Prof. Biljana Gavrilska, Prof. Anatoliy Kiselev and Prof. Marine Iashvilly, graduated with Honors and earned his Ph.D. at the Russian Academy of Music – Gnesins, in Moscow, Russia.
Born in Skopje in the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Dimov began performing in earnest at age 14 and appeared many times as a soloist with the Macedonian National Philharmonic Orchestra, playing violin concertos of Lalo, Mendelssohn, Mozart and Tchaikovsky, and won First Prizes at national competitions. He moved to the United States in 1997.
His playing was described as embodying “..deep stylistic understanding, emotional performance, instrumental and artistic culture...” by the Conservatory Professors in Moscow, “...confirmed superiority...” by Macedonian Radio and “...blazing virtuosity...” by The Wall Street Journal and Macedonian Press.
Dr. Dimov has performed as a guest soloist with Dniepropetrovsk Philharmonic Orchestral; the International Federation of Young Musicians (FIJM) Chamber Orchestra at the FIJM 50th Anniversary Congress in Budapest; the Czech Artist Festival Opening with Marienbad Symphony Orchestra; with the Pilsen Trio in Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, Festival of the Nations in Rome; the Ohrid Summer Festival; and the Belgrade Summer Festival.
He recently held a Solo Recital in Toronto, Canada and performed as a soloist with the Butler County Symphony. He has held concerts for the Kent State University–Ashtabula Concert Series and made a concert tour through Western Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Dr. Dimov has also made solo concert tours in United States, Canada, France, Ukraine, Russia, Italy, Hungary, Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovenia, Yugoslavia and Macedonia.
Through the years, Dr. Dimov has been a member of many orchestras, including: the Czech Radio Symphony, the Macedonian Philharmonic and the Grand Canary Philharmonic Orchestra.
He is currently Concertmaster of the Butler County Symphony Orchestra and Artistic Director of The Youth Consort of the Butler County Symphony. He is a busy teacher and serves on the faculty of the City Music Center of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, St. Vincent College in Latrobe and Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
Recently, Dr. Dimov was appointed as Head of the String program for the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts.
Dr. Dimov is fluent in more than 10 languages. He has been the subject of feature stories on Macedonian Radio and TV, Yugoslav Radio, Radio Belgrade, Vijesnik (Croatia), Czech Radio, WQED (Pittsburgh) and WQLN (Erie). He has also been featured in The Wall Street Journal and In Pittsburgh (a city magazine).
