The Cleveland
Orchestra |
|
| |
The Cleveland Orchestra was founded in 1918 under the direction of
Russian-American conductor Nikolai Sokoloff. Long considered
one of America’s great orchestras, The Cleveland Orchestra
stands today among the world’s most-revered symphonic ensembles.
In January 2000, Music Director Christoph von Dohnányi
led a series of concerts reopening Severance Hall, the Orchestra’s
home, following a $36-million renovation and restoration project.

Lenny
Kravitz |
|
| |
Lenny Kravitz's new album is simply titled Lenny.. Guitars
and riffs dominate the tracks, and the songs veer from hard
rockers to anthemic ballads to funked-out jams with a bit
of psychedelia thrown in. Kravitz, who produced the disc and
played all the instruments, says it represents some of his
most innovative production work yet. He also confides that
the philosophical and emotionally candid lyrics illustrate
a newfound comfort with himself.

Milcho Manchevski,
film director |
|
| |
Best
known for his Oscar-nominated Venice winner BEFORE
THE RAIN, Manchevki recently directed DUST.
It stars Joseph Fiennes and David Wenham as
American Wild West men that end up in early 20th century Macedonia
under Turkish Ottoman rule. According to Manchevski, DUST
is an "eastern" (as opposed to traditional "westerns.")
The film is structured as an unorthodox trilogy of vignettes,
which changes time periods and locations for each new story.
The fractured plot straddles one century, moving between contemporary
New York City, the old Wild West, and the old "Wild East"
(Balkans), around the 1903 Macedonian uprising against its
Turkish occupiers.
